Emergency or low-barrier shelters are designed to keep people safe from extreme weather conditions. The Emergency Shelter program provides beds on a first come, first served basis, to any homeless person. It is sometimes also referred to as emergency shelter.

DC Declares Snow Emergency To Go Into Effect Monday, March 3, 2014, At 7am

(Washington, DC) With a heavy snowfall predicted, the District announced today that a snow emergency will go into effect at 7 am, Monday, March 3. By declaring a snow emergency, the District Snow Team (Department of Public Works and Department of Transportation) will be able to clear snow emergency routes curb to curb.
